Reminder: Roadcheck 2017 is Coming. Will You Be Ready?
The annual commercial vehicle inspection push is coming. It will be here before you know it and NOW is the time to start preparing.
That’s right, June 6th -8th DOT Inspectors will be conducting numerous roadside inspections and many CDL drivers are not going to be prepared. Are yours?
In its 30th year, the purpose of the program is for CVSA-certified inspectors to “conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives,” according to the CVSA website.
Roadcheck by the Numbers
Last year, a total of 62,796 inspections were conducted; 42,236 of them were Level 1 inspections. As a result of those inspections, CVSA reported that 21.5 percent of vehicles and 3.4 percent of drivers were placed out-of-service. Brake adjustment and brake system violations accounted for 45.7 percent of the out-of-service vehicle violations.
Those are some serious numbers. Vehicles and drivers being placed out of service means something big for Fleet Managers – DOWN TIME. And if the wheels are turning, you (and your drivers) aren’t making money.
It has not yet been announced what the major focus of this year’s Roadcheck is going to be. Last year it was tires and wheels, with many (18.5%) of the out-of-service violations being related to those things.
