History at the Indy 500

2016 IndyCar Indy 500 Winner PortraitMay 29th, 2016 was a historic day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 brought in a sellout crowd with more than 350,000 people in attendance. The local television blackout was lifted so more people could watch in and around the city than ever before. And, on a beautiful Indianapolis day, Alexander Rossi became the first rookie winner since Helio Castroneves in 2001.

It was a well run, exciting race featuring Rossi coasting across the finish line on an empty fuel tank after Carlos Munoz surrendered the lead having to stop for gas. Rossi, who is also the first American-born rookie champion since Louis Meyer in 1928 to bring home the title of Indy 500 Champion, used a fuel strategy that stretched his last tank almost 90 miles.  Needless to say, it was a thrilling finish.

On behalf of everyone at Dickinson Fleet Services, we want to congratulate Mr. Rossi on the big victory. And we also want to congratulate the Andretti Autosport team for continuing its tradition as a winning motorsports team.
