Andretti Autosport in the Indianapolis 500

The 104th Indianapolis 500® was held with no crowd, but the 33 drivers still put on a show we won’t forget. Andretti Autosport made their presence known from the start with three Andretti generations leading the drivers to the green flag with Marco Andretti as the pole sitter. Two of the Andretti cars were proudly representing the Dickinson Fleet Services logo, Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe.

The mayor of Hinchtown, James Hinchcliffe, started the race outside Row 2 in 6th position. The No. 29 Genesys Honda Indy car would continue to keep a good pace but was never able to catch the front of pack. His was steady as he finished the race in 7th position for Andretti Autosport.

Ryan Hunter-Reay started to the left of James Hinchcliffe, middle of the second row in 5th position. Hunter-Reay was very fast at the beginning looking like he may be able to put up a good fight for the win. As the race went on his pace would start to drop leaving him with a 10th place finish. Both drivers were able to finish avoiding several wrecks throughout the race.

A top 10 finish in the Indy 500® is no easy feat. Andretti Autosport was able to get three of their six cars in the top 10. Not the weekend the Dickinson or Andretti Autosport had hoped for, but some great racing, nevertheless. A crash from Spencer Pigot on lap 195 would hand Takuma Sato his second Indy 500® victory while finishing under a caution. Good luck to Hinchcliffe, Hunter-Reay and the rest of Andretti Autosport as they head to Gateway for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 for their next race.
