Recognizes a dealership for outstanding in-dealership sustainable programs and community contributions with a focus on innovation, creativity and engagement with community and/or employees.

Nominees must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Energy/Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction – Creative opportunities that reduce energy and/or greenhouse gas emissions in buildings through construction, operations, engagement, technology, or new processes
  • Waste Reduction – Exemplifies “reduce, reuse, recycle and compost” properties via community involvement
  • Water Reduction – Explores creative opportunities to reduce water consumption through operations, engagement, or technology
  • Innovative/Creativity – Seeks out and utilizes new technology; develops and advances better processes to produce impactful change
  • Collaboration/Engagement – Actively engages stakeholders within and beyond their dealership and/or engages employees in volunteer activities that align with sustainability priorities.

Reward:

  • $10,000 to fund sustainability project(s) at the dealership and/or in the dealership’s community.
  • Special award presentation at NADA2026 in Las Vegas

Cox Automotive is proud to announce Reynolds’ Subaru as the recipient of the 2025 Cox Automotive Leader in Sustainability Award. This annual honor highlights a dealership’s exceptional commitment to sustainability—through innovative programs in waste reduction, energy and water conservation, and engagement with employees and the local community.

A Tradition of Innovation and Stewardship

Founded in 1859 and now a six-generation family business, Reynolds’ Subaru stands as a certified eco-friendly Subaru retailer based in Lyme, Connecticut. The dealership’s dedication to environmental responsibility is evident through its participation in the Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailer Program, which emphasizes energy efficiency, community engagement, and ongoing efforts toward recycling and waste reduction.

Outstanding Sustainability Initiatives

  • Transitioned to solar power in 2019
  • Installed daylight harvesting lights and EV charging stations
  • Implemented comprehensive recycling throughout all departments
  • Recycles wastewater from vehicle detailing operations
  • Planted native flowers to support local pollinators and reduce water use
  • Provided native plants to buyers to encourage planting local species
  • Sponsored a hydration station at Gillette Castle State Park, leading to a reduction of approximately 10,000 plastic water bottles annually

Community Engagement and Recognition

Led by owner and general manager G. Hayden Reynolds Jr., Reynolds’ Subaru has made significant strides not only in environmental stewardship but also in supporting its community and delivering exceptional customer experiences. In addition to the Cox Automotive Leader in Sustainability Award, Reynolds’ Subaru was also honored with the 2024 Subaru Love Promise Customer and Community Commitment Award.
