Dealership Service Ticket Volume and Revenue Increase in January, According to Xtime Metrics

According to a recent analysis of Xtime metrics by Cox Automotive, service activity at franchised dealerships in the U.S. increased in January compared to December. The Repair Order Volume Index fell compared to January 2023, while the Repair Order Revenue Index remained higher year over year.

The monthly Xtime volume and revenue metrics are designed to showcase average service department performance over time, with the information indexed to January 2019. The two top-line measures provide a glimpse into service department performance at franchised dealerships in the U.S. Xtime, a Cox Automotive brand, provides software that helps auto dealers facilitate more than 10 million service appointments monthly.

In January, the Repair Order Volume Index rose slightly to 82.4. This represents a 2.7% increase from December but a 1.3% decrease from January last year.

Skyler Chadwick, director of Product Consulting at Cox Automotive, said, “In spite of the severe winter weather across the U.S. in mid-January, vehicle owners kept their service appointments. This is good news for dealership service departments as they continue to drive significant profit through fixed operations.”

The Repair Order Revenue Index for January is at 137.7, reflecting a 3.3% increase from the reading in December. This index shows a 4.3% increase year over year and a significant 37.7% increase from January 2019, growth driven in large part by inflation.
