A total of 1.46 million used vehicles were sold at retail – from both franchised and independent dealers – during June, down 1.5% month over month and up 2.4% year over year. Monthly Used-Vehicle Retail Sales Volume

Scott Vanner, manager of Economic and Industry Insights at Cox Automotive, noted: “The slight decrease in used-vehicle sales was anticipated following the spring surge, as this seasonal slowdown is typical for this time of year. Demand remains robust as consumers seek affordable vehicle options and aim to get the most value for their money, with some potential new-car buyers turning to the used market instead.”
The retail used-vehicle sales estimates are based on observed unit changes tracked by vAuto, a Cox Automotive brand specializing in inventory management. The vAuto Live Market View database provides guidance on sales pace and volume over time. Full-year sales volume, based on registrations and other sources, is updated annually.
CPO Sales Down in June as Expected
Certified pre-owned (CPO) sales decreased 13.1% month over month in June, according to data reviewed by Cox Automotive. CPO sales in June were down 3.7% year over year. The decrease in CPO sales was expected, as June had fewer sales days than both last month and last year, and did not include the holiday weekend. June’s CPO sales are estimated at 200,950, down from the still robust 231,137 in May. Year-to-date, CPO sales are running around 2% higher than the same period last year.
