The Cox Automotive Economic and Industry Insights team analyzes the trove of data from Manheim transactions through the wide lens of additional data available across Cox Automotive, offering thoughtful analyses on the used wholesale and retail markets.
By applying statistical analysis to its database of millions of used-vehicle transactions annually, Manheim developed the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index (MUVVI), a measurement of used-vehicle prices that is independent of underlying shifts in the characteristics of vehicles being sold. The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index is recognized by both financial and economic analysts as the premier indicator of pricing trends in the used-vehicle market, but should not be considered indicative or predictive of any individual remarketer’s results. Jeremy Robb is the interim chief economist at Cox Automotive and the lead economist for Manheim.

Data Reporting Schedule
The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index is a trusted benchmark for tracking wholesale used-vehicle prices in the U.S., which helps dealers and analysts gauge market shifts and anticipate retail trends. The official measure is reported on the fifth business day of each month.
The mid-month MUVVI number is a checkpoint number, not an official reading, and should not be compared to the official index reading. The mid-month is not a flash estimate, and it is not meant to provide any directional estimate of what the full month number will be.
