Dealership Service Ticket Volume Increases in May While Revenue Retreats from Record High, according to Xtime Metrics

A recent analysis by Cox Automotive of Xtime metrics revealed that service activity increased notably at franchised dealerships in the U.S. in May compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, service revenue decreased just slightly from its previous record highs in March and April. Both the Repair Order Volume Index and the Repair Order Revenue Index increased year over year.

The monthly Xtime volume and revenue metrics are designed to showcase average service department performance over time, with the information indexed to January 2019. The two top-line measures provide a glimpse into service department performance at franchised dealerships in the U.S. Xtime, a Cox Automotive brand, provides software that helps auto dealers facilitate more than 10 million service appointments monthly.

The May Repair Order Volume Index increased to 88.2, up 7.0% month over month from April’s upwardly revised number and was up 1.8% compared to May 2022, marking the first year-over-year increase in service ticket volume since January.

At 132.4, May’s Repair Order Revenue Index was down 1.3% from April’s upwardly revised reading and is up 4.5% year over year. The average revenue generated per repair order decreased by $8 off the revised record high in April.
